Who we are

Program Statement

The Program on History, Memory, and Conflict engages in research, education and practice concerning the production and reproduction of history and memory in conflicts and transitioning societies. A central focus of the work of the Program is the study of reconciliation processes as restorative relationship building in the aftermath of violence, which aims to create a stable and peaceful future where respect and security prevail.  The program organizes conferences, seminars, and other related events featuring academics, researchers, and practitioners from George Mason University, the Washington area, the broader US, and other countries.

This program includes four tracks:

  1. The Project on History Education
  2. The Project on the Politicization of History
  3. The Project on Reconciliation
  4. The “Lessons Learned” Project
